The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) is a statutory regulatory body for technical education in the country that had been limited to overseeing technical education. However, in 2003, the AICTE announced that it will constitute a National Engineers Registration and Licensing Board (NERLB) to provide registration and licenses for practice of engineering in India.

AICTE is vested with statutory authority for planning, formulation and maintenance of norms and standards, quality assurance through school accreditation, funding in priority areas, monitoring and evaluation, maintaining parity of certification and awards and ensuring coordinated and integrated development and management of technical education in the country.

There are presently over 1800 institutes that offer courses in Management in India and out of these the ones considered the best are usually AICTE approved colleges. So if you are now en route to selecting the ideal college that might give you the resources needed to enter the corporate world with confidence, be sure to give due consideration to colleges that have government accreditation.

The AICTE had issued its notification in December 2010 to B-schools listing a new set of rules for the B-schools of the country to follow. The circular instructed not only the doing away with important MBA entrance exams, such as the XAT, ATMA or MICAT, but ascertained that only CAT, MAT or any state government-conducted exams (such as the Maharashtra CET) can serve as entry points to B-schools.

These B-schools are the torch bearers of management education. For admissions to these aforementioned B-schools you should have a high percentile score in CAT exam.

The basic purpose of recognition by a national body like AICTE is to assure the quality of education and the facilities that are provided by the institutes. With such recognition, the institutes are certified that they have adequate facilities, sufficient numbers of teachers and the degrees are then recognized by many other universities and companies.

As the number of institutes keeps on rising every year, it becomes a big responsibility on part of AICTE to give validation to these colleges. But once the AICTE approved colleges come into being, it becomes easier for them to attract students and then their popularity also rises. Students from far and wide come for admissions into these colleges, irrespective of the state in which they are located. Being recognized by AICTE, the certificates of these institutes are recognized by many major organizations and the students are able to carve a good career.
